Culinary beach weekend at Bilderberg Hotel Scheveningen – Holland

Many people don’t know that the country I live in and which I love, called the Netherlands, aka Holland has, besides the popular capital Amsterdam, many beaches as well. Did you know that the whole west coast of Holland is facing the North sea and therefore has a lot of beaches, most of them long, wide and quiet?

I live in The Hague which is actually the city with the most beaches in Europe and lies along 11 km stretch of beach on the west coast of Holland.

This city of royalty which seats the Dutch government is renowned for its history, going back almost 1,000 years, and of course for its multitude of impressive sights and monuments, such as the Peace Palace and House of Parliament called ‘’het Binnenhof’’.

You can find more pictures of my beautiful city and its famous sights in my previous blogs here and here.

For this and many other reasons The Hague is definitely worth a visit, but don’t forget to wander out of the city to the beautiful surrounding beaches as well. And that’s exactly what we did a few weeks ago as tourists in our own city to spend the perfect weekend in Holland’s most famous seaside resort called Scheveningen.

This time we spent the night at Scheveningen’s Bilderberg Europa hotel, only 198 steps from the beach and with dune- and seaside views from our room, how lovely is that?!

Let me show you what exactly makes this hotel unique through many of my personal pictures, so you can see for yourself why I can recommend it for your perfect Dutch beach & culinary visit:

Unique features Bilderberg Europa Hotel

  • The hotel is ideally located, very near the lively boulevard and surrounded by many attractions like the AFAS Circus theater, several casinos and shops,

  • It’s only a 10 minutes’ drive from vibrant royal city The Hague and only a 2 minutes’ walk to the beach,

  • Offers excellent service, with a trendy lobby and warm welcome,

  • Has spacious and comfortable rooms with king-size bed, bathroom including bath and panoramic seaside- or city views from the wide balcony,

  • Plenty of amenities in the room; free coffee and tea facilities, free WIFI, 40-inch flat-screen TV, safe and air-conditioning,

  • Lots of free relaxing options at the large indoor pool including sauna, solarium and Turkish steam bath,

  • Offers 11 completely renovated meeting rooms with all the latest equipment,

  • And has an excellent breakfast and splendid dinner and drinks options in the recently renovated restaurant and lounge bar.

About dinner

The SALT Coastal Bistro & Bar offers a great breakfast, for which the Bilderberg hotels are renowned, but dinner in this new look restaurant of the Europa hotel is definitely worth a try as well! Although Scheveningen boulevard offers a multitude of restaurants, the variety of options on the menu and relaxing atmosphere of the hotel’s restaurant seduced us to dine here instead.

This Coastal Bistro is facing the boulevard entrance way, and with its outdoor terrace and many tables by the window, dinner here is both a pleasure for the eye as the stomach.

Naturally the salty air and salty sea of Scheveningen has inspired the look and menu of the restaurant with many different flavored specialty sea salts for you to try and subtly integrated into a variety of dishes. And with its many tasting and sharing options, which meant that all starters and main courses are possible to order in small, normal or 1,5 portions, nothing stopped us from sampling almost the whole menu! A very original way to try out so many of their tasty dishes in a casual trendy setting with great service.

About Scheveningen

Although it can be a bit more crowded than neighboring Kijkduin, lively Scheveningen is perfect for a day or weekend visit because of its abundance of attractions and beach clubs. With its vibrant boulevard, brand new Ferris wheel on the recently renovated Pier and multitude of shops and restaurants it’s the perfect combination of city-and beach life!

This seaside area is easily reached from The Hague in only 10 minutes by car or public transport.

The famous Pier of Scheveningen is a true icon on the Dutch coast, extending 400 meters into the sea, with a big restaurant at the end including a bungee jump tower and newly built Ferris wheel towering over the sea, it slightly resembles the famous Santa Monica pier. Especially all lit up at night with sunset views like ours it is a stunning sight. And a ride on the Ferris wheel with impressive views over the coast line and the whole of Scheveningen to both sides can not be missed!

The pier dates back to the 1900’s and overcame fires and decay as it has recently been renovated and rebuilt in a totally new style with industrial décor, different pop up stores, food trucks and beachy vibe to regain its old glory in a trendy way. With this it offers something for everyone and will host several events throughout the year.

Here’s a small gallery for you to experience this yourself through my pictures already:
