Royal The Hague city trip stay at La Paulowna Boutique Hotel

As you might know I love playing tourist in my own country and even city, and adore unique boutique hotels, about which you can read more in these blogs and last week we found the perfect combination in my hometown with a royal The Hague city trip stay at La Paulowna Boutique Hotel. One of the most unique luxury boutique hotels Den Haag has to offer!

The Hague city trip stay at La Paulowna Boutique Hotel

Not only is La Paulowna Boutique hotel very small scale with 6 main suites and 5 extra rooms nearby. It's also very chic and situated in one of the most beautiful areas of The Hague, surrounded by 2 palaces, several museums and the Parliament, better known as ‘Het Binnenhof’.

Prominently located on the atmospheric Anna Paulownaplein in the heart of chique ‘Zeeheldenkwartier’, just a 5 minutes’ walk from one of the most beautiful and oldest parts of the city center. Where the main historical buildings of The Hague are located, which you can see on this map:

I will tell you all about my favourite streets and sights in this area at the end of the blog, but first more about this beautiful boutique hotel!

Royal The Hague city trip stay at La Paulowna Boutique Hotel

For a real royal city trip La Paulowna Boutique Hotel is certainly the perfect place to stay, as it's one of the most historic boutique hotels of The Hague. Currently owned and lovingly renovated by Anuschka and Wim this unique building has regained its early 20th century splendor after having served as bank and office building for decades. The characteristic rooms and lobby have all been furnished and decorated by the couple itself with love and passion, which certainly shows!

You can book your stay directly, and see more of the hotel here: La Paulowna Boutique Hotel

Let me show you why I love this hotel so much through my own pics and experiences:

Unique & royal features La Paulowna Boutique Hotel The Hague:

  • A stylish historic building completely renovated with many modern facilities, while maintaining its heritage and unique charm,

  • Perfectly located in the center of The Hague, a short walk from many shopping streets, surrounded by historical buildings, museums, just 1,5 kms from Madurodam, 15 minutes driving from the beaches and 17 km from Rotterdam/The Hague airport.

  • Surrounded by public transport, many parking garages nearby and affordable parking options in the surrounding streets. Easily reached by car, just a 45 minutes’ drive from Schiphol airport.

  • The hotel has just 6 suites in the main building and 5 extra rooms/suites nearby, each with their own styling and details. Decorated by the owners themselves with accessories and products from local shops and artists. And several furniture elements handmade by the owner himself.

  • Wim and Anuschka are always happy to help, very flexible and even rent out the rooms for photoshoots for a few hours / day. Or as a worklocation, upon request for a special rate upon availability, as the suites are also very convenient for meetings and as office for a few hours.

  • They strive to use organic products in a sustainable way which gives this hotel the unique style and ‘home away from home’ feeling, characteristic for a good boutique hotel! (click on the smaller pics to see the full size and descriptions):

  • All rooms and suites are complete and modern with king-size beds, airco, a private bathroom, extensive seating area, TV, Wi-Fi, Nespresso machine, and so much more. We stayed in the Royal Emerald suite which is located at the front side of the building and has stunning city views with its small balcony looking out upon the buzzing square,

  • The Emerald suite is the largest with high windows and beautiful high ceilings with antique ornaments. The unique hand-painted palm leaves wall, electric fireplace and many seating options with stunning views make it even more atmospheric and hard to leave the room at all. See for yourself in this small gallery (click on the arrows to see all of pics and read the description):

  • You can stay here with 4 - 5 guests as the ensuite living room is so spacious and has a fold out closet with second king size bed. They can even provide you with a 5th bed upon request.

  • The 7th suite of the main building is used as a spacious elegant meeting room, also with stunning high windows and decorated ceiling. Providing the perfect setting for any meeting in style and the exact reason why I hosted many of my Instagram workshops here already, about which you can read more here: WORKSHOPS

  • The staff is super friendly and helpful and the owners are always present and so nice as well. Their character, enthusiasm and pure passion for this hotel can be felt in every element.

  • As it befits a good B&B La Paulowna also offers an excellent a-la-carte breakfast in their restaurant until 11.30 am, perfect for me as I love to sleep in late. Check out is until 12, or late check-out until 2 pm, upon request, which I find a huge advantage!

  • For lunch and dinner their in-house Bayonne Restobar is certainly recommended as well. Located on the ground floor, this French-Spanish restaurant can not be missed! Delicious dishes are served here in a stylish atmosphere and can be enjoyed both inside, as well as on the sunny outdoor terrace, on one of the nicest city squares of The Hague.

  • The menu is quite unique with a mix of Basken-style dishes varying from tapas and highly recommended pinxtos, to different combinations of vegetarian, fish or meat dishes, each delicious and surprising.

Things to do around La Paulowna Boutique Hotel

If you like beautiful architecture, original shops, history and culture, this hotel and its surrounding is perfect for you too! The Anna Paulowna Square is stunning with its buzzing terraces, historical buildings with beautiful facades and small streets with unique shops all around it. Just strolling through this area is a real pleasure and within minutes you will reach many beautiful and historical sights, museums and palaces such as:

  • Vredespaleis (Peace Palace),

  • The iconic Mauritshuis and Binnenhof (Parliament)

And my favourite chique shopping streets Noordeinde with its many galleries, Hoogstraat, Prinsestraat and Plaats square with their elegant shops, cafés and restaurants, make this the perfect hotel location when you are looking for a more unique and royal experience of The Hague. I made a small gallery for you to get an impression (click on the arrows to see all of pics and read the description):
